Amazon.com Product Description The Griffin iTrip Auto FM Transmitter with SmartScan wirelessly sends music from your iPod to your car radio so you can listen on your car stereo speakers. It combines Griffin's renowned FM transmitter technology with an integrated charger. Designed specifically for use in the car, the SmartScan function makes it easier than ever to find the perfect frequency. SmartScan scans the radio dial for the three best frequencies and saves them to the preset buttons. The high-contrast display is easy to read in any light, and the three-stage light ring changes color to indicate charging status. Compatible with iPod (4G, 5G), iPod nano (1G, 2G, 3G), iPod classic, and iPod touch.

Great sound! September 6, 2010 annahen14 The key to getting good sound with an FM transmitter is setting it to international frequencies (I use 87.9) so that you don't get any interference from US radio stations. This product allows you to do so, and if your car can also, you're set.
To change to international frequencies with this transmitter, press the 'function' button, then press and hold 'mode' (about 10 sec) until a new screen with different regions pops up. JPN works great for getting below the usual US frequencies. Tune your car radio to match it, and the sound quality is hard to distinguish from a CD.
The only downside to this transmitter is that it only connects ipods (with the characteristic long flat charge/data connection), and if i did it again i'd probably get one that just plugs into the headphone slot to achieve more general usability. But, this format does mean that your ipod is constantly charging, so it all depends on what you want.
This works with my ipod nano 2G, haven't tried it on any others.
good price, sound mediocre September 4, 2010 djl Can't beat the price. Very easy to use but sound quality is not as good as other iPod transmiters I have used.
Love it September 3, 2010 AM I read all the reviews for this product and since they were all over the board i wasnt sure what to expect. I have had a great experience w/this product!! The sound quality is fab, its simple to use, and i havent experienced any problems w/it!! Great product
Does the job just fine! September 1, 2010 Catfish Kozmo (Arlington, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been using the iTrip for a while and it definitely is an improvement over past FM transmitters that I've used. The cord length does the job and is long enough to allow me to keep the cord docked in my center console in the car. This is nice as I can easily throw the cord back into the console when it's not in use.
I have to say that the tune scan is pretty much worthless however. I let it try to pick out 3 stations that would work and all three were pretty miserable in quality. That being said, I had much better luck just tuning my radio to the the low end frequencies until I got static and using that station. There was a little bit of practice to get the exact right station but once I got it, it was worth it. There's a little bit of hiss but then again, it's FM radio. Unless the manufacturers can pump up the amps on these things, I'm sure we're always going to have some hissing. At least I can find a small zone where there is no radio playing to I can listen to my iPhone. (yes, it works with my iPhone just fine)
